The best internet marketing affiliate programs have the following characteristics:

* They track multiple sales. If you send a visitor to a merchant’s products, is your affiliate ID cookied (attached to that particular visitor) for future sales? A smart merchant will always follow up with visitors about upsells and offers, and you should be getting the credit for all of those sales.

* Sales are tracked for months, not days. Your affiliate tag on a customer shouldn’t expire for at least 30 days. Many merchants set a limit on how long a customer is “tagged” for, and if they purchase after this tag runs out, you no longer make any commissions from sales of that customer. The best internet marketing affiliate programs last for 60 days or more.

* You’re making a significant amount per sale. There’s no sense promoting a product if you’re not making at least $10 to $15 per sale. It’s barely worth your time. You should also be making at least 50% of the sale price. Some merchants offer 70% commissions or more.

* High conversion rates. If a product doesn’t convert, there’s no sense in promoting it. Also remember that lower priced products should convert much better than higher priced products. Track your numbers to make sure that you’re maximizing the value of each visitor you send.

* Pre-sales funnel built in. Many great internet marketing affiliate programs have a follow-up system built on that drastically increase conversion rates. This means more money in your pocket. It is also easier to promote these products because you’re offering “free content” to your website or list, not a sales pitch.

* Recurring commissions. Only a small percentage of programs out there offer recurring commissions, but getting customers into a recurring billing membership is invaluable because many customers will pay you for years to come, month after month. However, conversion rates for memberships are typically lower. Be sure to track your results carefully!

Out of necessity, I will make some assumptions. You can very easily put this entire plan into a spreadsheet and work the numbers. That is, you can create a speadsheet that has plenty of simple variables in it and adjust as you want.

Here’s what you need to do first: Generate $1 of profit. It doesn’t matter how you generate that first $1 but you need to do it. Try article marketing, affiliate marketing, or freelancing. Write a report and WSO it. It simply doesn’t matter. Just generate that first $1.

Next, focus like crazy (see: 10x Method) until you reach $100. If you can make $1 you can make $100. Do the same thing that worked again and again. Get to $100 cash in your account.

Third, invest the $100. This $100 is not for fun and games. It’s seed cash for your $1,000,000 empire. You can only spend this money to make more money. If you spend it on that caramel macchiato, then don’t ever plan on doing a JV with me. Don’t ever plan on hitting the $1,000,000 because you’re wasting your opportunity. You are just a consumer not a producer — you need to produce and invest like a wild animal on wild animal crack cocaine. Insane focus to win…

So, what do you invest in? I don’t care as long as it throws off cash every single month. You need to buy assets. For our little $1,000,000 journey let’s stick with something I love dearly: CONTENT. You really can’t own too much content. Used correctly, content is money. It’s always possible to generate cash from lot’s of content. You can sell content. You can re-sell it (think: PLR, MRR). You can use it for pulling in eyeballs; customers with a burning want or need and they have cash.

What kind of content should you buy? For this journey, let’s talk about straight up articles. The kind you’d use for a high quality blog entry or a submission to EzineArticles.

Hint: You can set up review sites in various niches quite easily. You can follow any number of methods and use any style of marketing. There’s no magic here.

Fourth, we’re going to do some math. We’re going to assume that you can buy a smashing good article (high quality and 500+ words) for $10. (This is something you can adjust up or down. I can buy content for $4-5, but that’s a topic for another day.)

So, take your $100 and buy 10 articles. That’s about 1/3 to 1/2 of a pretty decent web site. Note: You can easily set up a blog or a nice static web site using a free blogging tool and free HTML/CSS templates. This is baby food stuff you can figure out. Got it?

Hint: You’re going to set everything up as fast as possible. You might need to burn $10-20 of your first $100 on hosting and a domain. Don’t fight this. Just do it. Or, again, forget about hitting $1,000,000.

Fifth, you’re going to get your site indexed by Google. You’re going to submit your RSS feed. You going to use free services to get higher rankings. You’re going to submit some good comments on niche-related blogs. You’re going to consider generating a little more cash and joining traffic generation memberships and services, e.g., Traffic Drill. Again, this is all Internet Marketing 101.

Sixth, you’re going to repeat all of the early steps again. You’re going to generate another $100-300 and you’re going to buy more content for your site. The key is reinvesting and focusing to grow, grow, grow.

Note: These 6 steps should only take you 3-4 weeks at most. The truth is that you can do it in 3-4 days. Simply do some work for some other internet marketers. Some freelance work will get you all the seed cash you need. You can generate the seed cash offline too if you really want…

====== TAKE A DEEP BREATH

At this point you’ve done what seems like a lot of work and you’re not rich. Well, get used to it. Getting to $1,000,000 takes time. Some folks can do it extremely fast, but they are in the top 1% and mostly lucky. You’re in for a battle. It’s one you can win, but you have to be ready for a serious uphill fight. If you’re *sincere* about wanting $1,000,000 then keep reading. If not, then pack up and go home.

Listen up. There is plenty of opportunity to make $100 to $5,000 per month for part-timers. You can generate $10-100K per year without being too deadly serious. But, if you want that $1,000,000 there’s some punishment ahead. I’m just warning you.

Note: Some internet marketers will disagree with what I just said. Great! I’ll leave it at that. I welcome disagreement and logical discourse.

====== EXHALE AND GET READY

Seventh, now your niche site is fully operational. Time to really focus on the monetization and working the numbers. Sure, you could have already pulled some cash from your site, but if you haven’t this is how it works. (Note: Replace “niche site” with “blog”. It doesn’t matter.)

I’m going to assume that you know something about Google Adsense. (Experienced folks: Don’t groan. I don’t want to hear it. Just replace “Google Adsense” with Clickbank, pay per lead, eBay affiliate program, or whatever money-making special juice you use. I’m going to use Google Adsense because it’s so monkey simple.)

Assuming you put a couple of ads on each of your pages or on your blog entries, you can do something AMAZING.

What’s this amazing thing? Well, you can easily track and monitor your investment and success. (See why Google Adsense makes sense Mr. Advanced Marketing Pro? Sales metrics right at your finger tips.) You can see exactly how well you’re doing or not.

* How much does each page, on average generate?
* How much money am I making per day?
* What days are better than other days?
* How am I doing from month to month?

Eighth, you’re going to figure out what each page is worth re: Adsense. For example, let’s say that one page, on average, is worth $5 per month in Adsense revenue. This is achievable. But, again, you can manipulate this in your spreadsheet.

Your 30 page niche site generates $150 per month. ($5 per page x 30 pages, got it?) Now, I want you to think about that…

In just 2 months you’ll earn back your initial seed investment of $300. Remember that you struggled to hit the $300 mark, but now eyeballs are paying you back in just 2 months.

From the very start of your $1,000,000 quest, in just about 3 months you’ll be 100% EVEN in terms of your investment. Plus, you now have an asset that throws off, on average, $150 every single month.

Doesn’t that feel pretty good? I mean, really, that’s getting pretty close to a car payment. Do 3 months of work and you can get a FREE CAR.

Yes yes yes yes yes, I hear you. That’s not exactly how things work. It’s not “reality” but listen to me, it’s damn close. This is how internet marketing really works folks…

3. Potential fall off in advertising
4. Technical issues and downtime.
5. Competition or death-by-Google-exclusion or sandboxin’

There are plenty of reasons why this is complete hogwash. But, you can adjust this in any way that you want. The basic principles apply. This is a model that makes sense and folks can follow it.

To make everyone happy, let’s do this. Let’s assume that you simply cannot grow beyond 5,000 pages. Fair enough, right? You just can’t. It makes this more fun…

Now you’re generating $25,000 per month. It takes work, but you’re doing it. Bravo!

Now it’s time to end the story…

Take $25K and simply divide it by $1,000,000. (I’m ignoring the fact that you’ve made money along the way, for a moment.)

$1,000,000 / $25,000 is 40. What’s the “40″ really mean? That’s 40 months. $25K per month x 40 months is $1,000,000.

To cut to the end, that’s less than 4 years — START TO FINISH — to hit $1,000,000 in profit.

…

Now, you can talk about taxes, cost of living, and anything else. I will simply respond with a “So what?” and tell you to squeeze out more profits or outsource better or do something else clever.

The point is that, roughly speaking, you can hit $1,000,000 in about 4-5 years if you’re deadly serious.

My advice? Print this out and tear it apart. Figure out why I am right and why I’m wrong. Take notes on what YOU can do. Make a plan to hit $1,000,000 starting today — knowing with full confidence that you can do it. The numbers simply don’t lie.

Hint: Keep in mind that there are many “wealth accelerators” such as JVs, spending money on high quality traffic generation services, smart outsourcing, under-exploited niches and keywords, and more.

I’m assuming plug-n-chug “take the hill” actions that aren’t very risky or interesting. It’s your job to improve on my model and get rich a lot faster, ethically and responsibly.

The best way to pay me back for this posting is to write something even better. Improve my model and tell every single marketer how you would do it. Pass this knowledge around to those people that deserve and desire success.

This morning I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned. Of course I only saw the dentist for a few minutes. The rest of my time was spent with Gerry, the hygienist. She’s a great woman and loves to talk.

Before I knew it, we were talking to about the financial crisis and she was asking me how to get through it. I started talking about index funds, balancing your portfolio, regression to the mean, no load mutual funds, FDIC, and more. Then there was a deer-in-headlights look and I felt bad. At that moment I realized that she was very afraid.

Then something amazing happened. She asked if I would look at all her investment portfolio; Gerry was heading to “her guy” later in the day so the documentation was out in her car. She literally ran to her car and grabbed her IRA and investment information for me to look at. (It’s true!)

It’s astounding what people will do during a financial crisis. Fear is a powerful driver. Losing a huge chunk of your retirement in 2-3 days is painful. Fear and pain also drives unusual decisions, like people sharing intimate financial details with each other.

I told you this crisis story because it sets the stage for how I feel about it all. Like many people, I have a balanced portfolio, personal savings accounts, bonds, and more. And, like you, I care about my financial situation and the shocks in the stock market.

But –

I’m not as worried as most people. I’m going to share a secret with you. It’s something that will reward you forever if you really take it to heart and take action.

I’m very calm these days because I know that I can sell. Yes, I’m a salesman. This is very powerful and drives peace and harmony with my personal finances.

If you can sell, you can always survive. If you can sell, you can lose all of your money and still pull down cash and feed your family and pay the mortgage.

“But I don’t like to sell!”

I hear you and I understand. If you don’t like selling, then first I have to say that you probably don’t understand selling. It’s not as dirty as you might think. Selling, when done right, is simply giving people what they want for a fair price. It’s as easy as a conversation. (It’s true.)

But there’s another piece of this secret. The second part of my advice is that you need to start your own business. If you run your own business then you can survive any financial turmoil as long as all your money isn’t tied up in the stock market. It shouldn’t be!

When you own your own business you are completely in control. You can’t control the market or your customers, but you can survive dark times. In fact, when things are grim you are best positioned to strike out on your own. That point is worthy of it’s own blog posting but it’s true. You can take that to the bank.

So, in short, if you want to make it through tough financial times then you need to sell. You need to embrace the power of marketing. If you don’t know how, start learning today. Secondly, start your own business and focus on sales. Be sure that those sales translate to profits, not just pure revenue. Make money and grow.

As reference, A.I.D.A. stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. It’s a way of understanding a simple marketing model. In this blog posting I’ll focus on interest. The A.I.D.A. will make more sense as I push forward.

So, what is interest? What does it mean from a marketing point of view? I’ll answer those questions but first let me make an important point.

In reference to A.I.D.A. please remember that “interest” comes after attention. I will assume that we’ve already grabbed the attention of our reader or customer.

Recall that grabbing attention is critical but attention is easily broken. People don’t focus very well. Even small distractions break attention. To make matters worse, if you try too hard to grab someone’s attention you will turn them off.

In the previous posting on attention I provided you with some power words. Well, if you try too hard you’ll lose people quickly. It’s that simple. You have to strike a balance.

So, “interest” in A.I.D.A. is really about holding interesting or holding someone’s attention. It’s isn’t the initial act of capturing someone with sexy images and power words. That’s already done. You need to know how to keep people interested.

Let’s explore that for a moment. If you want to keep people interested you need to give them a good reason to stick with you and stay focused. You also need to occasionally boost their attention. This is why subheadlines work so well — you’re giving someone reasons to stick with you as they read down a page. Makes sense, right?

There are other tricks to hold attention. For example, you can use psychological devices. That is, you can get the person invested in the page in several ways. You can use their name (if you have it). You can also add mini-surveys to a page, with radio buttons and checkboxes.

Think of attention this way. If you can get the person to interact with your web page, chances of keeping their attention is much higher. Don’t just hit people with images and great information — get them engaged.

This excitement drives interest. It can also boost attention if it’s starting to fade. But remember, don’t bombard a person with great stuff. Mix it up with boring but high value content, such as charts, images, statistics, and the like. Give people shortcuts along the way.

So, I’ve summarized the key ideas behind “interest” in the A.I.D.A. model. You should understand what it means but you should also feel pretty good about some of the new techniques you can use to improve your salescopy.

But, what does that mean exactly? What is internet marketing? What do you really need to know?

There are many definitions for internet marketing. Normally I’d try to simplify things, like I would do for one of my friends or family members. But, I know you’re interested in internet marketing, and you want some details — that’s why you’re here.

So, I’ll start with a few simple ideas then I’ll build up. In many respects, internet marketing is simply another way of saying online marketing, online business, or work-at-home internet business. The core idea is that you’re using a computer and an internet connection to generate money.

Not Just Work from Home

You don’t have to work at home to be an internet marketer. Many IM’ers, as they are called, work for large organizations, marketing companies, and research firms. The central idea is that internet marketers do marketing online, usually in an effort to advertise, pull in buyers, and ultimately sell products and services.

So, here are the two key ideas summarized:

• Most of the work is done online via the web
• Most of the work is marketing and sales related

As a quick aside, internet marketing isn’t only about search engine optimization (SEO), Google Adwords, or any other particular technology. Yes, technology is always in the mix, but internet marketing is more about the tactics, strategies, and methods to do business online.

The bottom line is that you don’t want to be fooled into thinking that internet marketing is one single thing. It’s a complex clustering of tools and techniques. And, internet marketers pick and choose what works best for them. Some internet marketers use 1-2 tools whereas others use the full spectrum. There’s not one secret or special technique which works for all internet marketers.

But, there’s more…

It’s All About Making Money Online

The heart of internet marketing is the set of actions and activities that make money for businesses, online and offline. In other words, when internet marketers talk about internet marketing, they care about one thing: making money.

Now, this might seem obvious, but internet marketers are both extremely focused and easily distracted. They are constantly looking for the Holy Grail of online cash: very little work, very high profits, and freedom.

Internet marketers therefore employ a number of tools and techniques to make money online. To make everything clear, I’ll provide several examples for you.

7 Internet Marketing Examples

eBay — Many internet marketers have used eBay as their key platform to make money online. Not only can they make money via auctions they can also use eBay to drive traffic to their sites. It’s also possible to build a customer list with eBay.

Article Marketing — With article marketing the idea is to write articles to make money. The “trick” is that you have an author bio box or author resource box. In that author credit box, you include links to your sites (e.g., sales pages, sign up pages, and so on). You can get traffic directly from article directories or from blogs and sites when people syndicate your content.

Affiliate Marketing — The concept of affiliate marketing is that you sell products for other people but you get a commission. Internet marketers often get at least 50% of the profits, but some internet marketers offer 70% commission or more.

Pay Per Click (PPC) — This is a way of driving traffic to a site via advertising. In most cases you bid on “keywords” which are the words and phrases people use to find content on search engines. The mother of all PPC systems is Google Adwords. The amount you pay per keyword or key phrase can range from just $0.01 per click through $50 or more.

Memberships — This is a more advanced internet marketing technique. You can set up a membership or club on a topic and then charge customers a fee for access. Usually memberships operate on a monthly basis, i.e., customers pay for access month by month. Although this is typically seen an an advanced online marketing technique, there are ways to set up simple memberships. Autoresponder memberships are a great example of simple yet effective memberships.

Offline Marketing — Internet marketers often make a lot of money by selling their services to small, local businesses. They still use online tactics to drive traffic, encourage people to make a purchase. Internet marketers can work with businesses offline on a pay-per-lead basis, setting up web 2.0 and social media tools, and more.

Private Label Rights (PLR) — Private label rights are “whitelabel” products, which means that the buyer has near complete control over the product. For example, you can purchase PLR products, do a little re-writing, and call the product your own in many cases. PLR is often affordable and effective. (Highly Recommended: Simple PLR Club)

You’re buying their efforts, their time, their brainpower. You’re not just buying words.

But, many people think that’s what PLR is all about — just getting content. But really, that is just plain wrong. You need to rethink this because, to tell the complete truth…

PLR is equivalent to outsourcing. You’re buying their work; the research that someone else has done ahead of time for you in a niche. It’s that domain knowledge, and the time invested in the topic, that really matters with PLR. That’s the true value. That’s the core of any PLR that you buy. (TIP: “Is Free PLR Good?“)

I want to tell you exactly what kind of PLR you should purchase right now. I don’t think anyone has covered this topic this way previously. Stephen Wagenheim touched on this when he talked about PLR and outsourcing (”PLR is Outsourcing on the Cheap“), but he didn’t talk about what kind of PLR to buy based on the outsourcing concept.

This is really important. If you just buy and buy, you’ll end up with hard drive full of PLR content. You won’t really know why you bought all that content and you probably wasted a lot of money. (TIP: “PLR Articles — How to Use Them“)

Well, we’ve really beaten that to a pulp. Let’s refocus and consider when you should buy PLR. Below you’ll see special tips that I’ve previously only given to my best customers. Feel free to refer other people to this blog entry; help others.

You should by PLR under the four following conditions…

Number One: You should buy PLR when you do not have any knowledge about a niche. That means, outsource what you are not good at. Buy PLR when you’re clueless on a topic. You’ll quickly get smart in that niche. PLR is a shortcut to advanced knowledge, assuming you’re able to purchase or otherwise acquire PLR that is of good quality. (TIP: Read The PLR Model Blog)

Number Two: You should buy PLR when you can’t make money. What I mean is that there are times when it’s more cost effective to simply buy PLR to help your customers. For example, if your customers keep asking how to set up a WordPress blog, you might not be able to make any money from it. So, you could purchase PLR that clearly explains how to get the job done. Cheap, effective, and gets the job done. It also drives up customer satisfaction and loyalty; no problem.

Number Three: You should buy PLR when you do not enjoy a topic. If you don’t have passion about a topic, it’s very likely to show through. You’ll be exposed! Also, if you get frustrated with something and therefore you don’t enjoy it, you’re not going to be able to create a good product for your customers. Simply grab some PLR and your problems go away.

Number Four: You should buy PLR when you realize you’re wasting time. Anytime you’re generating any sort of content whether it be for your website, blog or new report you’re working on, you should start with PLR. Remember, you’re buying brainpower. In other words, PLR is a shortcut to knowledge.

Here’s the recap. PLR is just like outsourcing. If you lack knowledge, when you don’t have high ROI for your effort, when you’re burned-out or dislike a topic, or when you’re just plain wasting time, you need to consider purchasing PLR.

I’ll wrap up by saying that buying poor quality PLR is a bigger waste of time and energy than doing the work yourself. You need to know exactly how to find and review PLR. More importantly, you need to know how to evaluate PLR before you even buy it — yes, we clearly explain exactly how to do this inside PLR Exploitation.

So that’s out of the way, now it’s time to talk about converting PLR into something unique without any re-writing. If you think it cannot be done, then you’re in for something very special. And, once I explain the idea, you’ll better understand what I was talking about in the PLR Model video.

Here’s the secret in just three words: Unique Selling Proposition

You can sell a product very well by talking about a big list of features plus the benefits. However, killer sales almost always come by highlighting a single benefit above all other benefits. As multi-millionaire Michael Masterson has stated, “When this benefit can be presented as uniquely characteristic of your product, you have an advertising proposition that can last and last and last.”

You simply need to establish something unique about the PLR product you own and you can stand above everyone else. You don’t have to re-write anything at all. You simply need to explain something very special about the PLR you own. You need to cast it in a new light, or explain it in a way that no others have done before.

This might simply mean advertising the product in a new way, in a new medium. Or, it might be more robust. You might explain a benefit that no one else has ever pointed out, which you can then exploit for maximum gain. Remember, this takes no re-writing unless you wish to tweak your PLR.

By the way, you can do two things to make your PLR product stand out as unique and 100% fresh. Literally make it unique in some way: add graphics, add a new introduction, re-write content. This obvious works as we’ve clearly explained inside PLR Exploitation.

You can also use a “Jedi Mind Trick” to make your product unique. That is, you just need to make the product seem better to other people. This is the power of finding your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). The USP can be completely based on perceptions. This requires one thing from you: brainpower. You’ve got that, for sure.

So, that is how to convert PLR into something unique and profitable with very little work, and often no re-writing. You’re creating PLR gold out of thin air while others are off in a dark mine digging for it. Working very hard in fact.
