Hi John,
A really great post you have written. As a fairly newbie to blog promotion this got me thinking, I draw motivational/self-development cartoons and put them on my blog http://www.motivationalcartoons.co.uk
Would it be a good idea to offer these as guest post to blogs within this niche? Is there any way of automating this so that they could put a bit of html code on their blogs and have it updated immediately? I realize that doing it this way that the content isn’t going to be individually prepared for them – but what do you think?

Hi!

If you’re an editor and you look for blogs about editing, the chances are that these are being produced by other editors. What are the odds that they would be willing to post articles by the “competition” — much less recommend you? When you consider that blogs are marketing tools, the owner might feel that posting articles by other editors would be undermining the purpose of their blog.

What are your thoughts on this?

My hamsters are not happy about this line \"so easy a hamster can do it\". They believe it implies that they are simple creatures. They demand that you apologize immediately and pay a fine of 3 sacks of sunflower seeds.

In the future, I\’d stay away from rodent-based metaphors.

I have been telling my clients to do this for years. It is amazing how many of them still don’t do it. They cite “I’m too busy” or “didn’t have the time.” The odd one is honest and says they hate doing it and would rather have a root canal.

There are some cool tools out there that will automate most of the process, It’s tough to outsource your responses because the blog posts are varied and you need an expert to reply with good quality content. And not just those hacks who say “Great post! I will really read your stuff from now on. Here’s my link”.

I automate as much as I can. I have systems that find the high PR sites for the niche, and another system to find the blogs, and then I spend an hour (not even) a week writing responses. I too though fall into the trap of not writing enough but I don’t worry about it though. I just start it up again.

One other benefit to guest blogging is, other bloggers often will see you’ve guest blogged, and if you’re really good, may ask you to guest on their blog as well. This can become very lucrative for you as the quality of blogs asking you write something goes up.

Who doesn’t love an experienced guest blogger?

It’’s good to see someone actually posting things that help people. Nice job
